Denbighshire Church's Survey of Llangynhafal Church

This is the only church dedicated to St Cynhafal, the site probably dating back to the 7th century. The present "double naved" building dates from the 15th century and has many interesting features including the carved heads and angels on the beams and the pelican in her piety above the altar symbolising Christ nourishing His church with His own blood.

St Cynhafal's maintains the atmosphere of a place where "prayer has been valid" for many centuries.

If you would like to experience this place of prayer for yourself, the key is readily available nearby.

From Ruthin, take the A494 Mold road and continue to Llanbedr village.  Turn left at the church on to the B5429 following signpost Llandyrnog and continue for about a mile then turn right following the signpost Gellifor.  Continue for about two miles and then take a narrow road up a hill following the signpost, “Llangynhafal Church”

A bus route passes the end of the lane to Llangynhafal Church. This is not frequent. Details of bus times can be found on the Traveline Cymru website.

Events and functions are held at various times. Please e-mail the Rector at hbutler@dyffrynclwyd.org.uk for information.
